The universe is as close as the veins in your neck

The universe is as close as the veins in your neck

The angle seemed askew,
an enigmatic grin hanging
at the end of the highway,
a last orange gasp.
his silence tangible
between the sounds.
We pull a history in unmatched words
from two hemispheres
over empty space.
I remember
at least one ancient cell
in the body comes from stardust.
We follow the black syntax
of the moon's thoughts
out to drifting stars.
A universe expanding into nothing,
we are the space we travel to.
