When Day Stands Still

Original Text:
Marjory Nicholls, Collected Poems, comp. Niel Wright (Wellington: Original Books, 2009).
1There's a big rose near my window
2    Hanging a heavy head;
3And golden-yellow, drowsy rose
4    With not a petal shed,
5But full of sweets and rounded ripe
6    And dreaming in the noon--
7The golden hour--the golden flower,
8    Why must they waken soon?
