The Witch in the Glass
The Witch in the Glass
Original Text
Scribners Monthly 21.5 (March 1881): 744.
1"My mother says I must not pass
2 Too near that glass;
3She is afraid that I will see
4A little witch that looks like me,
5With a red, red mouth, to whisper low
6The very thing I should not know!"
7Alack for all your mother's care!
8 A bird of the air,
9A wistful wind, or (I suppose
10Sent by some hapless boy) a rose,
11With breath too sweet, will whisper low,
12The very thing you should not know!
