Parental Recollections

Original Text
The Works of Charles and Mary Lamb, ed. E. V. Lucas, III (London: Methuen, 1903): 398. PR 4860 A2 1968 Robarts Library. Lucas' text made from Andrew W. Tuer's facsimiles.
2    Its pretty tricks we try
3For that or for a longer space;
4    Then tire, and lay it by.
5But I knew one, that to itself
6    All seasons could controul;
7That would have mock'd the sense of pain
8    Out of a grieved soul.
9Thou, straggler into loving arms,
10    Young climber up of knees,
11When I forget thy thousand ways,
12    Then life and all shall cease.
