Original Text

I
1What's Man, but a perfidious Creature,
2Of an inconstant, fickle Nature,
3Deceitful, and Conceited too,
4Boasting of more than he can do?
II
5Beware, ye heedless Nymphs, beware,
6For Men will Lye, and Fawn, and Swear;
7But, when they once have gain'd the Prize,
8Good Heav'ns! How they will Tyranize!
