I
1What's Man, but a perfidious Creature,2Of an inconstant, fickle Nature,
3Deceitful, and Conceited too,
4Boasting of more than he can do?
II
5Beware, ye heedless Nymphs, beware,6For Men will Lye, and Fawn, and Swear;
7But, when they once have gain'd the Prize,
8Good Heav'ns! How they will Tyranize!
