The Magi

The Magi

Original Text

Yeats, William Butler. W. B. Yeats: Selected Poetry: 63. Ed. by A. Norman Jeffares. London: Macmillan, 1968.

1Now as at all times I can see in the mind’s eye,
2In their stiff, painted clothes, the pale unsatisfied ones
3Appear and disappear in the blue depth of the sky
4With all their ancient faces like rain-beaten stones,
5And all their helms of silver hovering side by side,
6And all their eyes still fixed, hoping to find once more,
7Being by Calvary’s turbulence unsatisfied,
8The uncontrollable mystery on the bestial floor.
