Loving Kind went by the way,
Hapless Loving Kind,
Up and down, by night and day,
Her true love to find.
Roving eye and nimble tongue
All her paths pursue:
How should she, and she so young,
Know false love from true?
Some by grace she would compel;
None would she deny:
How shall I my true love tell
Only passing by?
Sober heart and prudent mind
Scorn her and reprove:
How should she by loving find
Any truth in love?
Yet she smiled and smiling said:
Though my love I see
Except I take him to my bed,
How shall he know me?
