The Lion

The Lion

Original Text
Vachel Lindsay, Collected Poems (New York: Macmillan, 1923): 263.
1The Lion is a kingly beast.
2He likes a Hindu for a feast.
3And if no Hindu he can get,
4The lion-family is upset.
5He cuffs his wife and bites her ears
6Till she is nearly moved to tears.
7Then some explorer finds the den
8And all is family peace again.
