I bended unto me a Bough

I bended unto me a Bough

Original Text
Thomas Edward Brown, Collected poems (London: Macmillan, 1900). PR 4175 B5 1900 Robarts Library
1I bended unto me a bough of May,
2That I might see and smell:
3It bore it in a sort of way,
4It bore it very well.
5But, when I let it backward sway,
6Then it were hard to tell
7With what a toss, with what a swing,
8The dainty thing
9Resumed its proper level,
10And sent me to the devil.
11I know it did--you doubt it?
12I turned, and saw them whispering about it.
