The Frog

The Frog

Original Text
The Bad Child's Book of Beasts (London: Duckworth, [1896]): 45-48. Internet Archive AVQ-4330
1Be kind and tender to the Frog,
2    And do not call him names,
3As "Slimy skin," or "Polly-wog,"
4    Or likewise "Ugly James,"
5Or "Gap-a-grin," or "Toad-gone-wrong,"
6    Or "Bill Bandy-knees":
7The Frog is justly sensitive
8    To epithets like these.
9No animal will more repay
10    A treatment kind and fair;
11At least so lonely people say
12Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
13They are extremely rare).
14    Oh my!
