Fracture

Fracture

Original Text

Dani Couture. Sweet. Toronto: Pedlar Press, 2010.

1There are things my body is not telling me:
2late nights and friends I'll never meet.
3The yellowing bruise on my hip.
4Strangers who ask, Haven't we met?
5Pine needles threaded through my black knit dress
6and I have not left the city in months.
7Morning when my body thinks me asleep,
8I listen to it work.
9A soft-footed rummaging,
10the slow sharpening of bones.
11Suddenly, a femur thrust through thigh,
12a door opened, the body no longer at home.
