City of Huge Buildings
City of Huge Buildings
Original Text
Poetry: A Magazine of Verse 5 (Oct. 1914): 24.
1City of huge buildings into which men have poured their souls,
2City of innumerable schools where little children are taught and cared for,
3City of the great University, discussing solemn and learned questions,
4City of well-dressed, beautiful women, sleek, satisfied, sure of their clothes and of themselves,
5And their husbands sleek and satisfied also:
6I, a common prostitute, in the wan morning buying cocaine,
7Ask you the meaning of it all.
