Care-charming Sleep

Care-charming Sleep

Original Text
Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, Comedies and tragedies (London, 1647).
1Care-charming Sleep, thou easer of all woes,
2Brother to Death, sweetly thyself dispose
3On this afflicted prince; fall like a cloud
4In gentle showers; give nothing that is loud
5Or painful to his slumbers; easy, sweet,
6And as a purling stream, thou son of Night,
7Pass by his troubled senses; sing his pain,
8Like hollow murmuring wind or silver rain;
9Into this prince gently, oh gently slide,
10And kiss him into slumbers like a bride.
