Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves

Original Text
Jones Very, Poems and Essays (Cambridge: Riverside Press, 1888): 128. Internet Archive Form:
1The leaves though thick are falling; one by one
2Decayed they drop from off their parent tree;
3Their work with autumn's latest day is done,
4Thou see'st them borne upon its breezes free;
5They lie strewn here and there, their many dyes
6That yesterday so caught thy passing eye;
7Soiled by the rain each leaf neglected lies,
8Upon the path where now thou hurriest by;
9Yet think thou not their beauteous tints less fair
10Than when they hung so gayly o'er thy head;
11But rather find thou eyes, with looking there
12Where now thy feet so heedless o'er them tread;
13And thou shalt see, where wasting now they lie,
14The unseen hues of immortality.
