2Men to devotion ought to be inclin'd:
3Therefore I likewise on so holy day,
4For my sweet saint some service fit will find.
5Her temple fair is built within my mind,
6In which her glorious image placed is,
7On which my thoughts do day and night attend,
8Like sacred priests that never think amiss.
9There I to her as th' author of my bliss,
10Will build an altar to appease her ire:
11And on the same my heart will sacrifice,
12Burning in flames of pure and chaste desire:
13The which vouchsafe, O goddess, to accept,
14Amongst thy dearest relics to be kept.
Notes
1] A series of eighty-eight sonnets, published in 1595 and probably written between 1592 and 1594 during the poet's wooing of Elizabeth Boyle.
