American Poets: Longfellow

Original Text
James McIntyre, Musings on the Banks of Canadian Thames, including poems on local, Canadian and British subjects, and lines on the great poets of England, Ireland, Scotland and America, with a glance at the wars in Victoria's reign (Ingersoll: H. 1Like fruit that's large and ripe and mellow,
3Melodious songs he oft did pour,
4And high was his Excelsior.
5He shows us in his psalm of life
6The folly of our selfish strife;
7With Hiawatha we bewail
8His suffering in great Indian tale;
9Indian nation was forlorn
10Till great spirit planted corn.
