1When the first dark had fallen around them
2And the leaves were weary of praise,
3In the clear silence Beauty found them
4And shewed them all her ways.
5In the high noon of the heavenly garden
6Where the angels sunned with the birds,
7Beauty, before their hearts could harden,
8Had taught them heavenly words.
9When they fled in the burning weather
10And nothing dawned but a dream,
11Beauty fasted their hands together
12And cooled them at her stream.
13And when day wearied and night grew stronger,
14And they slept as the beautiful must,
15Then she bided a little longer,
16And blossomed from their dust.
