I Want You to See

I Want You to See

Original Text
Pier Giorgio Di Cicco, Women We Never See Again (Ottawa: Borealis Press, 1984): 11.
1I want you to see the hole in my shirt where your
3a dream at the back of the neck. Here, let me unbutton it for you.
4Notice the ribs, those sweet things you loved, notice the insides,
5the parchment lampshades, the books, the furniture. Notice yourself
6sitting, holding my hand on a winter night, notice the look in
7my eyes, now close it all up and walk away.
8Stumble, pretend you're dead. Just for me, pretend you can be
9hurt by something so simple as a failed emotion. Pretend you have seen
10loss. For god's sake what was I holding when you said good morning.
