The Good Conceit
The Good Conceit
Original Text

Secker, 1917): 203. PR 4518 C686A17
2 And blots the stars and seldom lifts,
3I thank whatever gods may be
4 For my indubitable gifts.
5Under the whip, upon the setts,
6 Men drive me many a galling mile;
7My stock of editors' regrets
8 Would fill a barrow, but -- I smile.
9Fast by this trade of wind and wit
10 I mean to hold till life be done,
11And every year I stay in it
12 Finds, and shall find me, tugging on.
13It matters not how stiff and sheer
14 The climb -- how difficult the sum,
15I am the man they've got to hear!
