Eurynome

Eurynome

Original Text
Jay Macpherson, Poems Twice Told: The Boatman & Welcoming Disaster (Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1981): 22.
1Come all old maids that are squeamish
2And afraid to make mistakes,
3Don’t clutter your lives up with boyfriends:
4The nicest girls marry snakes.
5If you don’t mind slime on your pillow
6And caresses as gliding as ice
7-- Cold skin, warm heart, remember,
8And besides, they keep down the mice --
9If you’re really serious-minded,
10It’s the best advice you can take:
11No rumpling, no sweating, no nonsense,
12Oh who would not sleep with a snake?
