Random Poem of the Day

embarrass the bare limbs
that still bear them,
especially at sunset
when leafless trees become
their silhouettes
and empty nests
tend to stand out
like mashed clots
in a fine mesh of capillaries
or ink blots
in failed calligraphy—
those spots
where nibs have bled
into the fibre.
Actually, I lied.
Empty nests in leafless trees
aren't similes
or metaphors
or, for that matter,
even matter.
They're black holes
that sucked their birds
inside.
