Letter from a Friend

Letter from a Friend

Original Text
Carol Shields, Intersect: Poems (Ottawa: Borealis Press, 1974): 30.
1What do you mean you don't
2understand me these days?
3Can't you see I'm
4sewn up with sadness?
5Stitched through and through with grief that won't
6be comforted or identified.
7Damn you, you were always
8one to minimize: hormones
9you finally decide
10as an excuse
11for my bitch-madness.
12Let me alone.
13Something terrible inside
14me has come loose.
15Give me time.
