Letter from a Friend

Original Text:
Carol Shields, Intersect: Poems (Ottawa: Borealis Press, 1974): 30.
What do you mean you don't
understand me these days?
Can't you see I'm
sewn up with sadness?
Stitched through and through with grief that won't
be comforted or identified.
Damn you, you were always
one to minimize: hormones
you finally decide
as an excuse
for my bitch-madness.
Let me alone.
Something terrible inside
me has come loose.
Give me time.
