On Chloris Walking in the Snow

On Chloris Walking in the Snow

Original Text
Walter Porter, Madrigales and ayres (London: W. Stansby, 1632). STC 20124.5
2Whilst feather'd rain came softly down,
3And Jove descended from his tower
4To court her in a silver shower.
5The wanton snow flew on her breast
6Like little birds unto their nest;
7But overcome with whiteness there,
8For grief it thaw'd into a tear;
9Thence falling on her garment's hem,
10To deck her, froze into a gem.
