Arthur Hugh Clough (1819-1861)

"With Whom is no Variableness, Neither Shadow of Turning"

1It fortifies my soul to know
2That, though I perish, Truth is so:
              3That, howsoe'er I stray and range,
4Whate'er I do, Thou dost not change.
5I steadier step when I recall
6That, if I slip, Thou dost not fall.

Notes

1] The title, taken from James 1: 17, was added in 1869.
