Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

Eight O'Clock

              1Supper comes at five o'clock,
2    At six, the evening star,
              3My lover comes at eight o'clock --
4    But eight o'clock is far.

5How could I bear my pain all day
6    Unless I watched to see
              7The clock-hands laboring to bring
              8    Eight o'clock to me.

Notes

2] The planet Venus appears to follow the sun as it rises and falls in the sky.
