William Carlos Williams (1883-1963)

Muier

              1Oh, black Persian cat!
              2Was not your life
              3already cursed with offspring?
4We took you for rest to that old
              5Yankee farm, -- so lonely
6and with so many field mice
              7in the long grass --
              8and you return to us
              9in this condition --!

            10Oh, black Persian cat.

Notes

1] Cf. "mujer" (Spanish, `woman').
