Art thou pale for weariness


              1      Art thou pale for weariness
              2Of climbing heaven and gazing on the earth,
              3      Wandering companionless
              4Among the stars that have a different birth,
              5And ever changing, like a joyless eye
              6That finds no object worth its constancy?

1] These are among the many short fragments from Shelley's MSS. published by Mary Shelley, his wife, in her editions of 1824 and 1839. There she entitles this poem To the Moon. The first two lines of a second stanza were published by W. M. Rossetti in 1870: "Thou chosen sister of the spirit,/That gazes on thee till in thee it pities ..."
