Concordance

Carl Sandburg (1878-1967)

Theme in Yellow

              1I SPOT the hills
              2With yellow balls in autumn.
              3I light the prairie cornfields
              4Orange and tawny gold clusters
              5And I am called pumpkins.
              6On the last of October
              7When dusk is fallen
              8Children join hands
              9And circle round me
            10Singing ghost songs
            11And love to the harvest moon;
            12I am a jack-o'-lantern
            13With terrible teeth
            14And the children know
            15I am fooling.

Notes

12] jack-o'-lantern: pumpkin carved into a face with slits for eyes, nose and mouth and lighted from within for Halloween.
