Child of a Day

1Child of a day, thou knowest not

2 The tears that overflow thy urn,

3The gushing eyes that read thy lot,

4 Nor, if thou knewest, couldst return!

5And why the wish! the pure and blest

6 Watch like thy mother o'er thy sleep.

7O peaceful night! O envied rest!

8 Thou wilt not ever see her weep.
